Every year as I start writing the annual feng shui guides and updates for home (which I have been writing for many years) I inevitably first meet the same old wall of resistance. It always says the same things so I’ve learned to just let it be. “What on earth are you doing?? 2027 feng shui-what? Annual flying stars? Fire Goat and Fire Horse? Get serious already, you can do better than that.” Yes, of course I can, and even though I have been in this full time for over 22 years, this voice is as present as ever. So I just welcome it as I go into hermit mode for about a month to do my own analysis and writing on 2027 feng shui.
Every year I also wish there were some alternative words to describe this study. Because feng shui is just one word (well, technically two) for literally hundreds of formulas, techniques, schools and applications varying from finding best sites for ancestral burials to best dates for a wedding. A lot of it is steeped in superstitions, ego wars, deep secrets and modified calculations. So the somewhat doubtful reputation of feng shui is definitely understandable. But then there is also incredible wisdom there, knowledge that is logical, practical and brings really good results when applied well in built structures. This is why I’m in it.
So, resistance aside, I dive in.
The Feng Shui of 2027
The archetype of the year (also called the zodiac sign) is that of a goat or a sheep. However, this is not the sweet and obedient one that we usually associate this animal with. Here we are looking more at the energy of the mountain goat, and its capacity for resilience, altitude, silence, strategically planned behaviour and a somewhat hidden, higher habitat. We are moving into a very different energy, transitioning from the Horse archetype with its tendency for recklessness and unbridled Fire to a much more tempered, reserved, and cautious rhythm.
We are still in Fire energy in 2027 but of a very different quality. It is the Yin (vs last year’s Yang) Fire, more tempered and more contained by the Earth element attributed to the goat archetype. It is missing two important elements, Water and Metal, which in practical terms may reflect the need to establish strong and clear boundaries, especially in one’s emotional life, as well as to be more conservative with one’s finances. This is a year when one will definitely benefit from more focus, strategic planning and pruning vs leaping forward and expanding.
A slower, more focused and inward year does not mean a more peaceful or relaxed year, not at all. In energetic terms, 2027 can be described as a dry kiln (or very dry soil) leaving one somewhat vulnerable to burnout and exhaustion. To protect one’s health and vitality, there might be the need for drastic rearrangement of priorities, including distance or even withdrawal from what is superficial and draining, be it in media, work or personal relationships.
When Does 2027 Start?
This might sound like a strange question but it is important here because feng shui is based on the ancient LuniSolar calendar. So there is a Solar New Year, which is always on February 4th, and then there is a Lunar New Year (the one we know as Chinese New Year) which falls on a different day each year because it is connected to the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice.
So the 2027 Yin Fire Goat year begins on February 6th, 2027.
The year begins with a solar eclipse, followed by a lunar eclipse two weeks later. This can indicate a strong charge and intense energy for the new year, but by now I think we are all used to intensity. It is just a matter of wisely navigating it.
Are Annual Feng Shui Updates Important?
Now let’s move into the territory directly connected to built structures, and specifically to our homes. Classical feng shui considers both physical spaces and the time factor. This means that in addition to general feng shui guidelines that remain valid year after year, there are also specific recommendations that change annually. Nothing is static, and time obviously never stops. But does this movement of time always require changes in our home? Not always, and not necessarily. Some adjustments can be beneficial, while others are unnecessary.
This is where the application of annual feng shui updates can become complex and even confusing. How much change should you make in your home this year? What if you have rooms you rarely use? What if some feng shui adjustments are just not practical or even possible in your home? And actually, how can the same suggestions apply to every house when every house is different?
For this we have to start with the concept of the annual feng shui chart.
2027 Annual Flying Stars Feng Shui Chart
The annual chart is based on the ancient Lo Shu Square, a mathematical 3 x 3 grid called magic square containing numbers from 1 to 9. The pattern of movement of these numbers was determined by ancient scholars and used for many purposes: from divination to planning of major architectural structures. In feng shui, the moving Lo Shu numbers are called flying stars, they each have specific energies and a feng shui element. The movement of these stars (be it annual, monthly and even daily) is considered to bring specific influences to the areas they occupy.
So the annual chart shows the current position of these flying stars for the year. As each of the nine areas also has its own fixed number (the original number from Lo Shu square), the interaction between the fixed numbers and the moving ones (flying stars) creates what we might call the overall climate of the year.
Below are the Lo Shu Square (with its fixed numbers) and the 2027 Annual Chart (showing the current location of the annual feng shui stars):

Now, what do all these number combinations mean for you and your home?
How do you actually put this knowledge to use?
Because each annual star is traditionally classified as either beneficial or harmful, its movement brings different influences to different areas of a home. The overall energy in each area of your home will depend on how the element of the annual star interacts with that of the fixed number. Once the interactions between all annual stars and fixed numbers are understood, recommendations and annual decor adjustments are made based on several classical tenets, especially the Five Elements theory (Wu Xing), one of the oldest foundations of feng shui.
The goal of applying the annual feng shui updates is to strengthen the beneficial influences in your home and to neutralize the negative ones. This work does not require drastic changes or unusual looking items; it is often best achieved with subtle but accurate adjustments to your existing home decor.
The Most Important Areas of Your Home in 2027
One of the most beautiful changes in 2027 is the arrival of a bright and potent annual star in the Center of our homes. Called the Purple Star 9 of Fire, it carries highly auspicious energy, and its relationship with the fixed number 5 of Earth in the center is quite harmonious for the area. This is a very welcome change, and something I would strongly encourage you to benefit from.
The center holds a very important place in feng shui because its energy influences the life of the whole house, so taking some time to understand how your specific home can welcome and sustain this beneficial influence is time very well spent. Strong (and appropriate) Fire element decor can be especially helpful here in 2027, but the actual recommendations depend on what occupies the center of your home, how it is used, and its existing conditions and limitations.
Another promising area is the Southeast, which welcomes the beneficial annual Star 8 of Earth. Its interaction with the fixed number 4 of Wood offers what traditionally is considered to support financial stability and growth. A vibrant balance of Earth and Wood elements in your home decor here (with a bigger focus on Earth decor) is really welcomed in 2027.
The Northwest also has a beneficial annual star (1 of Water), so this is another area to benefit from, especially given its association with strong support, helpful connections, and beneficial life opportunities. The decor elements need to be carefully considered here, though, in order to keep the area strong.
The South finally gets a breather from last year’s heaviness as it now welcomes the arrival of annual Star 4 of Wood (which, even though considered a transitional star in the current Period 9, still has qualities that one can benefit from, especially given the combination of elements here.) The Southwest can do well with its auspicious annual star 6 of Metal if treated wisely because it also holds an additional layer of energy traditionally considered to be challenging.
The main areas that require caution in 2027 are the North and West. The North receives annual Star 5 of Earth, which is considered the most challenging of all annual stars. The West receives annual Star 2, an Earth star that is becoming a somewhat less difficult star in this time period (especially when visiting a Metal element area). Still, careful attention to this area will be wise because the West also hosts an additional layer of negative annual influence, making it important to keep this area quiet and limit noise or too much activity.
The East and Northeast are also among the areas where loud activities, especially renovations, need to be approached with caution in 2027.
What Does the 2027 Chart Mean for Your Home?
The annual feng shui chart is the same for every home, but of course no two homes are alike. Even houses with identical floor plans can feel very different, depending on their orientation, connection to the land, and the way their rooms are used. This is why knowing which areas of one’s home receive beneficial or challenging influences in 2027 is only the beginning.
To benefit from the annual feng shui updates, you need to consider what actually occupies these areas in your home. A beneficial annual star arriving at your Southeast front door requires a very different approach from the same star arriving in a bathroom or a rarely used room. The same applies to challenging influences: a negative annual star in your bedroom, where you spend many hours every night, needs a different approach from one in a laundry room.
This is where the work becomes way more complex because it is not simply a matter of identifying which areas are favourable and which ones are unfavourable, but of understanding what deserves priority in your specific home, and which adjustments (be they modern decor solutions or traditional feng shui items) will be most beneficial without disturbing what already works well.
The 2027 Feng Shui Home Guides
Knowing the complexity (and the value) of this work, I have been writing the annual feng shui guides for many years, adding the monthly guide in more recent years. They are based on my experience working with numerous homes and all the challenges that different floor plans can present.
In the 2027 Annual Guide, after a detailed look at all nine areas of the home and their changing influences, I guide you step by step in choosing appropriate adjustments for each area, especially the challenging ones. Be it a bathroom in the most auspicious area or a kitchen in the most challenging one, I help you decide what deserves attention and what can stay the same as last year. I cover specific colors, shapes, materials, furnishings, artwork, lighting, and other modern decor adjustments, as well as traditional feng shui remedies when appropriate. I explain the reasoning behind these choices, what changes to avoid, and how to best approach different rooms and situations.
The Monthly Guide builds on the Annual one, suggesting simple changes that can be applied each month in response to specific monthly influences. Both guides are available for pre-order now, with delivery in early December.

Along with all the numbers, charts, and calculations, the good areas, the bad areas, and the ones in between, what always interests me the most is what makes a home better to live in. This is what I hope my annual guides help you achieve.
I wish you a good and peaceful 2027 in a home where you are happy to be in, and where you feel healthy, loved, and protected.
