Understanding 2026 feng shui annual energies and guidelines will help you make wise decisions for your life & home
2026 will come with a really fast energy that many of us can already feel. This energy can be received, or interpreted in many ways depending on your specific life situation, your birth feng shui data, as well as how bold and tenacious you were in the year of the Snake in shedding old skin.
These 2026 feng shui tips are intended to give you a good picture of the energies of the upcoming year, so that you can understand them, thus invoking a better year for yourself and your loved ones.
In feng shui, 2026 is the year of the Yang Fire element Horse. We are entering a very active and fiery year, fuelled by the energies of two Wood year elements before that. Feng shui-wise, the New Year starts on February 17th, 2026. You might have seen the beginning of the New Year noted as February 3 or 4 (depending on your time zone), and here’s why.
There is both a Solar and a Lunar calendar used in feng shui. The Solar calendar, just like the Sun, is stable, predictable and on clock, so the beginning of the Solar New Year, according to the ancient Chinese calendar, is always on the same day (February 3/4).
The Lunar Calendar, just like the nature of the Moon, fluctuates. And while the criteria is always the same – the beginning of the New Year as per Lunar calendar is on the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice – the actual day, of course, varies.
For our feng shui purposes of using the New Year energetic updates in a home, also called the annual feng shui updates, we always work with the Lunar calendar. However, when the Solar New Year comes before the Lunar one (which will happen in 2026 and is traditionally considered slightly inauspicious), we re-orient accordingly and have our homes’ annual feng shui changes ready by February 4th, 2026.
In defining the overall energy of a new year, we look at three factors:
(1) Its feng shui element
(2) Its energetic polarity (yin or yang)
(3) Its archetype (from the 12 ancient archetypes/zodiac signs)
The Flying Star School (Xuan Kong) on which the annual feng shui updates are based upon, has a wealth of nuances and apparent contradictions because it is a very old and quite mystical school. With the transition to Period 9, we also have several stars changing their energies, which can add to confusion. The magical Lo Shu Square – a tool that I absolutely love – can give us a glimpse into some mystical energies and patterns. However, this additional layer, when looked at from the point of the 9 Star Ki feng shui school, can bring misunderstanding, because in 2026 we have Star 1 in the Center, and Number 1 (or Star 1) is a Water element number. This explains why you might have seen online information on 2026 being a Water year vs Fire year, and a year of deep reflection vs bold fiery action.
So, the truth is complex and the overall 2026 annual feng shui energies are very complex, too. Adding to it is the fact that the bagua area related to 2026 Horse archetype and its Fire feng shui element – the South area – will be hosting two of the most challenging energies: Star 5 and Tai Sui.
You might read online that it is important to activate the Fire energy in your South bagua area in 2026. However, if you do that, this will be a big mistake, as it will strengthen the negative energies that already have double strength there. There is a lot about 2026 feng shui that is multi-layered and controversial, and I will be explaining this in detail, but most importantly offer practical feng shui decor solutions to calm, balance and strengthen the energy in your home.
