Understanding the energies of 2025 and the yearly feng shui tips and guidelines will help you make wise decisions for your life & your home
These 2025 feng shui tips are intended to give you a good picture of the energies of the upcoming year, so that you can understand them, thus invoking a better year for yourself and your loved ones.
In feng shui, 2025 is the year of the Yin Wood element Snake. We are entering another Wood element year, but with the opposite polarity, as compared to the Yang and bold energy of the 2024 Wood Dragon.
Feng shui-wise, the New Year starts on January 29, 2025. You might have seen the beginning of the New Year noted as February 3 or 4 (depending on your time zone), and here’s why.
There is both a Solar and a Lunar calendar used in feng shui. The Solar calendar, just like the Sun, is stable, predictable and on clock, so the beginning of the Solar New Year, according to the ancient Chinese calendar, is always on the same day (February 3/4).
The Lunar Calendar, just like the nature of the Moon, fluctuates. And while the criteria is always the same – the beginning of the New Year as per Lunar calendar is on the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice – the actual day, of course, varies.
For the feng shui purposes of using the New Year energetic updates in a home, also called the annual feng shui updates, we always work with the Lunar calendar. So, the feng shui of year 2025 begins, as per Lunar calendar, on January 29th, 2025.
In defining the overall energy of a new year, we look at three factors:
(1) Its feng shui element
(2) Its energetic polarity (yin or yang)
(3) Its archetype (from the 12 ancient archetypes/zodiac signs)
2025 is the Wood feng shui element year, so it continues the same energies of growth, inspiration and expansive vision initiated by the Yang Wood Dragon in 2024. However, the Wood of 2025 is of the Yin quality – calmer, more relaxed, cooler, more on the silent and introspective side rather than outwardly bold and expressive.
We are entering the domain of the Snake archetype, with is most renowned quality of wisdom. There are other words often used to describe its qualities, such as cunning, manipulative, even deceiving.
This is one of the most complex archetypes, for sure.
In Chinese astrology, the Snake archetype (expressed by those born in 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013) is considered a deep thinker, a person who knows how to innovate and strategize, often in silence and without much outer expression of their plans. Coupled with the Yin/quiet and receptive energy, this gives us obvious clues as to what energies will be most supported in 2025.
Both archetypes – the Dragon and the Snake – that are paving the way into the very important feng shui Period 9 (2024-2044), are renowned for their wisdom and both, interesting to note, have scales. The main purpose of scales is to provide protection from negative environmental factors and from predators, too. They shield the energy from unexpected damage.
In contemplating the Snake feng shui archetype of 2025, here are some questions you can ask yourself: Is there any specific protection you need to consider as we move into the new year? Not out of fear, but out of wisdom.
Are there plans you need to keep to yourself and be silent about? Areas you need to be very strategic about, and deeply introspective, in order to achieve what your want?
I encourage you to contemplate these questions as they will align you with the energies of 2025.
One more quick note here in order to eliminate the confusion you might have already encountered online if you looked for information on 2025 feng shui updates.
Either you’ve read an article written by AI or by a writer not fully versed in the topic, there are sources quoting year 2025 as an Earth feng shui element year, which is not correct. The confusion comes from attributing the element of the annual Star 2 (which is in the center of our homes in 2025, and of the Earth element) to the element of the year.
In other words, the element of the annual Star visiting the Center of any space in 2025 (based on the movement defined in the Lo Shu Square) is not the same as the feng shui element of the year.
Along with this confusion, I also see some resources calling 2025 the black year, which is so unnecessary. There is nothing to fear here, as the word black was simply used by ancients to denote the color of the soil because Star 2 is an Earth element Star.
Now, if you are an avid feng shui enthusiast, you might say: “Wait a minute, Rodika… Isn’t black the color of the Water feng shui element?” Yes, it is. You are absolutely right.
When it comes to feng shui, there can be many contradictions, so using logic, having accurate information, as well as a historical and cultural perspective is so very important.
The Flying Star School (Xuan Kong) on which the annual feng shui updates are based upon, has a wealth of nuances and apparent contradictions because it is a very old and quite mystical school. The magical Lo Shu Square – a tool that I absolutely love – can give us a glimpse into some mystical energies and patterns.
Understanding the annual feng shui Stars takes intelligence, good information and intuition, because otherwise how would you explain, for example, that Star 1 is called “The Covetous Wolf” Star? What about it is covetous and why is it called a Wolf Star? Trust me, nobody today has the right answer for that, only assumptions based on ancient texts. I do not mean to confuse you here by any means. I want to open a wide window so you can see many aspects of this ancient knowledge.
This will help you approach feng shui with a grain of salt, strong logic, as well as an intuitive kind of intelligence, meaning one that works with patterns, symbols, rhythms and associations.
I will conclude for now as I believe this article has given just enough food for thought in approaching the energies of the upcoming year. If you want to receive the detailed 2025 feng shui updates for your home, you can find them on my website.
Writing the annual feng shui updates has been a tradition with my readers and newsletter subscribers for many years now. I make the confusing and often contradictory feng shui information practical and easy to apply, so that the energy in your home can be in harmony with the energy of the year. This makes it much easier for you to accomplish all you want to accomplish, while staying vibrantly healthy, calm and balanced.
